SCISSOR LIFT TRAINING

This training program is designed to ensure that participants gain sufficient knowledge to safely operate Scissor Aerial Lifts. It also assesses the participants’ competency and eligibility to be certified as Scissor Aerial Lift Operators. The course focuses on safe operational practices, routine safety inspections, and maintenance procedures to reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency.

This course is open to Scissor Aerial Lift Operators, supervisors, and executives involved in the operation and management of aerial lifts.

  • Safety Protocols and Operational Procedures: Understand the safety protocols and operational procedures for Scissor Aerial Lift use.
  • Types and Functions of Scissor Lifts: Learn the different types of scissor lifts, their features, and functions.
  • Safety and Maintenance Inspections: Gain knowledge of how to conduct daily safety, performance, and maintenance inspections to reduce maintenance costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Safe Maneuvering and Elevating Techniques: Master safe maneuvering and elevating techniques for smooth operations.
  • Fueling and Charging Procedures: Learn how to perform fueling and charging procedures safely.
  • Hazard Recognition and Mitigation: Recognize and address common hazards associated with scissor lift operation, such as electrocution, collision, and tip-over risks.
  • Hands-On Experience: Gain hands-on experience in operating the lift, with practical sessions on starting, moving, lifting, and parking safely.

Day 1: Safety and Operational Fundamentals

Module 1: Introduction to Workplace Safety

  • What is Safety?
  • Overview of OSH Act 1994 / FMA 1967
  • Responsibilities of Employers and Employees

Module 2: Scissor Lift Fundamentals

  • Scissor Aerial Lift operation and safety
  • Habits, mindsets, attitudes, and behaviors for safe operation

Module 3: Types of Scissor Aerial Lifts

  • Different types of aerial lifts (fuel/gas driven vs. battery-operated)

Module 4: Stability and Principles of Balance

  • Stability of aerial lifts
  • Principles of balance for scissor aerial lifts

Module 5: Maneuvering and Elevating Techniques

  • Proper techniques for maneuvering and elevating the lift

Module 6: Pre-operational Inspection

  • Visual and practical inspections: electrical, hydraulic, tires, safety components, and more
  • Record-keeping and check sheet practices

Day 2: Advanced Safety and Practical Application

Module 7: Basic Fall Arrest

  • Overview of fall arrest equipment (harness, buckles, nylon straps, webbing, friction buckles)
  • Step-by-step instructions for donning a harness
  • Care, cleaning, and life expectancy of fall arrest equipment

Module 8: Proper Fueling and Charging Procedures

  • Safe fueling and recharging of aerial lifts

Module 9: Hazard Identification

  • Identifying hazards: decals, stickers, capacity limits, electrocution risks, and more
  • Safety precautions for wind, tipping, collision, fire, and explosion risks

Module 10: Platform Positioning and Parking

  • Safe parking procedures and parking hazards (holes, powerlines, weather conditions)
  • Testing park positions and turning off safely

Module 11: Practical Session

  • Video demonstration on general safety and forklift operations
  • Practical exercises:
    • Starting up
    • Moving
    • Lifting
    • Stopping
    • Parking
  • Q&A session

Module 12: Competency Test

  • Individual tests: Operating skills assessment
  • Group test and presentation: Daily maintenance check, PPE use, and operational tasks

End of Programme

This training provides essential skills and knowledge for becoming a safe and efficient scissor aerial lift operator. Participants will gain practical experience through hands-on exercises and assessments, ensuring they are well-prepared to operate aerial lifts safely. The course emphasizes proper inspection techniques, maintenance, and safety procedures to minimize risks, improve operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
